Pass-a-Grille
Beach

Located
at the southern end of St. Pete Beach,
Pass-a-Grille Beach has long been
a jewel in the
crown of Florida west coast beaches. There are
large pristine stretches of beach, with sugary,
white sand and feathery sea oats bordering.
The
surrounding neighborhood includes pastel, art
deco and wood frame homes that point to a
gentler time. New large two and three-story
resort homes dot the community too. After
the tide goes out the shells are numerous and
pretty.
Like to walk
or run? You can walk for more than an hour north
along beautiful water's edge (see photo above).
Restrooms and showers are available along the
beach area at various city and hotel locations
along the way.
A beachside
café offers breakfast and lunch. There are
plenty of restaurants with inside, outside, or
balcony dining. No pets allowed on the
beach.

History of
PASS-A-GRILLE BEACH
the Southernmost
of Pinellas County's barrier beaches, was the first
beach community on the Gulf of Mexico to develop as a
weekend residential spot for successful Tampa and St.
Petersburg residents. Home to fishermen, homesteaders,
and lumber men like Zephaniah Phillips, the island
opened up when Roy S. Hanna and Tampa cigar magnate
Selwyn Morey started in the 1880's to develop lots for
houses and hotels.
James H. Forquer,
manager of downtown St. Petersburg's Detroit Hotel,
set up a floating hotel for excursionists and
in 1898 George Henri Lizotte, a French travel agent
for Thomas Cook Company, opened the first permanent
hotel. Pass-A-Grille merged with St. Petersburg
Beach in 1957, Pass-A-Grille maintains its arty and
bohemian life style, in part, because the village is
but one block wide and 31 blocks long.

My wife and I have spent nearly
every weekend we've had available at this
nice secret (Pass-A-Grille). It is friendly,
restful, has some celebs, and is
small where it sometimes seems
almost private. The food is close
and excellent. Great hideout from
the riff-raft.

I first discovered
this beach in the
70's when I used
to come down to
visit my parents.
Now I've been
living in St. Pete
for 6 years and
it's still the
best family beach
in the area.
Clean, white sand,
un-crowded,
convenient
parking, nearby
shops and
restaurants...what
more could a
person ask? Maybe
a bit too quiet
for the
college/spring
break crowd, but
they can go to
Clearwater.

Loved it. Went to
Inn on the Beach
on Pass-A-Grille
for July 4th for a
friend's wedding.
The rooms were
quaint and
charming. The
owner and manager
were
pleasant, as were
the amenities.
I'll stay again
anytime!
- We escaped to
our private
hideaway in
Pass-A-Grille!
